From the Advanced CAS Workshop at NYU: the one tool Nicole recommends to every clinician starting DTTC is recording and reviewing their own sessions.

Hi, it's Nicole from the NYU Motor Speech Lab. It's been really exciting over here at NYU. We've had Dr. Strand here, and Dr. Grigos, and Dr. Case. Since Thursday, we've been running the Advanced CAS Workshop, which is sponsored by the Childhood Apraxia Treatment group and the Once Upon a Time Foundation. It's been incredible meeting all the amazing therapists in person and hearing Dr. Strand speak.
The one thing I kept finding myself telling the clinicians, when they came to talk to me or when we were talking in the big group, is that the one tool you should start using immediately when you begin implementing DTTC is video recording yourself.
I know it stinks. I know you don't want to look at yourself. I get it. I have to do it for the research, and I hate it. I hate it. But when I go back and observe my sessions, I catch a bunch of things. Maybe I thought the child said that vowel correctly, and he totally didn't. Maybe I thought I was following the hierarchy, and I clearly wasn't. It becomes such a helpful tool for honing your therapeutic practice.
You don't have to do the whole session. The other thing that helps is having a friend look at it, because they might see other things too.
